Riahna's Update!

Ok, many of you have heard about all of the drama with Riahna... She's been diagnosed with ankyloglossia, otherwise called tongue-tied. If you want more information on ankyloglossia, then click here . Basically, it's where the tongue is attached to the bottom of the mouth all the way to the tip of the tongue. If you go to that link, Riahna's tongue looks just like that little boy's when she sticks it out. It's kinda heart-shaped!

We took her to the specialist (otolaryngologist) this morning. The physician's assistant there, who we've seen before with Raven for her allergies, was able to look at Riahna and decide in less than 5 minutes that she needed minor surgery to fix it. In fact, he said if she didn't have teeth, he would have just numbed it and snipped it right there, but she DOES have teeth... And he wasn't willing to sacrifice a finger just to untether her tongue! He booked her for Wednesday September 12 VERY EARLY! Then we had to take her to get her blood tested to make sure I didn't pass on anesthesia complications to her.

When she does have it clipped, it's supposed to be the easiest thing in the world... She'll breathe some gas, fall asleep, go back and get it clipped, come out and wake up, stay for 15 or 20 minutes in recovery, and then go home. They also said bring her in her pj's and bring a sippy cup. And, worse case scenario, if she does test positive for the anesthesia problem, she'll have to stay for an hour or so in recovery to make sure she wakes up fully and ok! And they're not putting her very far under AT ALL... Just a little so she's nice and calm for them. There's no problems or repercussions or side effects from this. So, everyone think of us and poor little Sissy on that day, Wednesday the 12th.

So, I just wanted to update everyone on Riahna... I have more updates for the rest of us... Raven turned 4 on Monday, we had her party the day before, we're having her party for friends on this next Sunday, and so much more going on with us!
